MASK WORKSHOP INTRODUCTION Masks have been made by people since prehistoric times. The tradition of masks and masked dances is a unique phenomenon of performance shared by most cultures. Masks from the very beginning of its appearance in human society has been associated with dance. To impart a sense of mystery and increase the efficacy of a mask, certain cultures observe elaborate rituals and ceremonials in its making, preservation and disposal. Masks can be made of different materials, depending on their availability in a particular region, and traditions of craftsmanship. The mask with its innumerable forms and functions is one of the earliest man-created artefacts. It gives mankind the power to represent or hide its various faces; to protect, beautify, frighten or pacify. The mask is mankind's artificial and artistic other face. WORKSHOP During the workshop we'll talk about how wearing a mask make us feel different and how we feel about looking at others in their masks Participants will be encourage to use their imagination and creativity. The workshops are aimed to create original artefacts, to enhance the self-expression and interaction skills of the participants. It also affects their way of perceiving the world around them making it more exciting, stimulating and magical. MATERIALS This mask workshop will teach simple techniques of mask making utilizing a wealth of paints, feathers, sequins, glitter, coloured paper, cards, seeds and recycable materials to bring the creations to life.
PUPPET WORKSHOP INTRODUCTION Puppetry is a cross cultural artform that can overcome language barriers by providing a non-verbal, visual theatre experience.
